ATHENS, Greece / RankWire.AI / – The United Arab Emirates intends to boost its investment in Greece by an additional €15 billion as part of a collaborative initiative between the two nations. This development was announced on October 22 during Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, visit to Athens. The new commitment builds upon a €4 billion plan launched in May 2022 and aims to strengthen both economic and strategic connections.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, this expansion will enhance cooperation in sectors that are vital and prioritized for both nations’ growth. The original initiative established a framework for joint investments in mutually beneficial fields, resulting in notable transactions in energy and healthcare. Officials highlighted that these outcomes demonstrated the partnership’s ability to convert economic prospects into concrete investments. The additional funds supplement this existing framework.
During his visit, Sheikh Khaled met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Prime Minister’s Office in Athens. Their discussions focused on ways to advance collaboration in energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and high-tech sectors. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues, emphasizing the importance of security, peace, and stability. Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis greeted the Crown Prince upon his arrival at Athens International Airport, underscoring the ongoing growth of bilateral relations.
Strategic forum results in €12.75 billion in agreements
Coinciding with the visit, the UAE-Greece Strategic Forum took place in Athens, where parties signed deals and formed commercial alliances exceeding €12.75 billion. These agreements span digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, industrial development, logistics, port operations, healthcare, life sciences, and food security. It is important to note that these deals are separate from the €15 billion investment plan. Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis attended the forum alongside senior officials from both governments.
UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi expressed that these agreements, coupled with the new investment intent, reflect increasing confidence between the two economies. He emphasized the need to translate this momentum into concrete, productive projects. Describing the UAE as a hub for trade, investment, and connectivity, Al Zeyoudi also labeled Greece as a gateway to Europe. Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Haris Theoharis also participated in the forum.
Greece positioned as a strategic gateway to European markets
The UAE’s decision underscores its confidence in Greece’s economic potential and investment landscape. It highlights Greece’s strategic location as a bridge connecting European markets with regional and international arenas. The expanded initiative aims to deepen cooperation between investment bodies and companies from both nations, while fostering innovation and knowledge exchange. It is designed to unlock new investment opportunities and avenues for collaboration.
This announcement forms part of a broader UAE strategy to establish enduring investment partnerships across Europe. In September, the UAE unveiled a €40 billion investment package for Germany in multiple sectors. Additionally, the UAE has intensified discussions with other European countries, such as Italy. Officials view Greece’s initiative as laying the groundwork for a new phase of cooperation that extends beyond financial commitments.
